The Intersessional Panel Discussion on Human Rights Challenges in Addressing and Countering All Aspects of the World Drug Problem

The Intersessional Panel Discussion on Human Rights Challenges in Addressing and Countering All Aspects of the World Drug Problem was held in Geneva today.

The meeting talked about what is not working in human rights protection for people who use drugs, because access to harm reduction programmes is crucial to ensuring the human right to health.

Also discussed during the meeting was the report “Human rights challenges in addressing and countering all aspects of the world drug problem” in 2023, which describes the problems of drug use in the EECA region. It is important to note that this report of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights recognised and highlighted the problems of the EECA region, which would have been thanks to the consolidated shadow reports of CBOs, ENPUD, REAct and the support of ECECACD. https://cutt.ly/cwXLD0VX

Note, the intersessional panel discussion aims to provide space for a constructive and inclusive dialogue on human rights challenges in addressing and countering all aspects of the world drug problem, informed by the findings contained in the report “Human rights challenges in addressing and countering all aspects of the world drug problem” (A/HRC/54/53) prepared by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
